SHILLONG, APR 16: The Meghalaya government has launched its own weekly newspaper “MEGNEWS” and its first edition will be available to the public “free of cost” from Friday.
The government weekly was launched by Information and Public Relations mnister AL Hek at the state secretariat on Thursday evening. The weekly is published by the Meghalaya Information and Public Relations –MIPR- department.
Launching the weekly, Hek expressed his happiness that MEGNEWS, which is long pending proposal of the state government, has finally fructified.
Hek said, “This news bulletin aims at highlighting and disseminating of information about the policies and programme of the state government for the interest and benefit of the people of the state.”
In his introductory speech, DIRP director HS Shangpliang said the news bulletin will be release every Friday of the week adding that the department has tied up with some vendors to help in the circulation of the weekly.
Though it will be distributed free of cost, Shangpliang, however, said the vendors have agreed to charge a nominal amount of Rs 2 per copy for their services.
The department has printed up to 1200 copies for distribution on Friday, Shangpliang, however, informed that 400 copies will be circulated to ministers, government offices and district headquarters.
According to Shangpliang, the printing of the weekly might go up depending on the demand and support the department gets.- By Our Reporter
