SHILLONG, APR 1: Shillong Station Garden Competition & Flower Show 2015 concluded on April 1 The week long competition and display was held from March 24 to April 1.

The competition is held every year in Shillong since it kick-start in 1989.

The competition was held in three categories, Gardens, Potted plants and Flower arrangements. The competition, as always generated overwhelming response from officers, and all other ranks including families and children.

The competition was judged by eminent horticulturist from Shillong Agri-Horticultural Society led by V Singhania, Syrpai L Dkhar and Baphiralin.

The garden competition started on 24 March and continued till 30 Marchwith judging of gardens of various army units. Three sets of judges visited the gardens of regimental officers messes, offices, guest rooms, holiday homes and institutes.

Potted Plant competition was held on 31 Mar 15 where approximately 400 potted plant entries under 17 different categories were judged at Rhino Training Complex. On  April 1 Flower arrangement competition in fresh, dry and ikebana style arrangements were held.

The culmination of the event was the grand ceremony in the Rhino Training Complex where the Chief Guest was Lt Gen SP Nawathe, GOC 101 Area accompanied by President AWWA. A number of cultural dances and martial arts display by Assam Regimental Centre  and 58 Grokha Training Centre were the highlight of the event, which was followed by prize distribution of the winners and band display by the Pipe Bands.- By Our Reporter
