SHILLONG, MAR 23: To build mass awareness about the global epidemic of Tuberculosis (TB) and to alert the society about the efforts needed to eliminate the disease in the state, the department of Allied Health Sciences of Martin Luther Christian University conducted a one day awareness program to observe World Tuberculosis Day.
The Awareness Programme was held at Umlyngka community hall, East Khasi hills district, and saw participation from the local people including two headmen from Umlyngka locality, Stephan Lyngdoh and Thomas Mylliemumlong and students from three different schools including SanshnongHigh School, Thomas Jerman Jones School, and Philiang Memorial School, Umlyngka.
Speaking at the programme, Abraham Nongbet, State IEC Officer, TB Hospital Shillong, informed the gathering about the different signs and symptoms of Tuberculosis and also spoke in detail about the different types of TB that infect the human body.
P. Nonghuloo Faculty AHS, MLCU gave a brief presentation how TB spreads from one person to the other and also about the other organs in the body that can get infected by TB, while Ms C. Pariat, Microbiologist, MLCU, spoke about how to prevent tuberculosis and how to make the immune system strong.
S. Wankhar, Dietitian, MLCU informed the audience about the type of food that will make the body stronger to resists infections of TB and kind of foods that will help person suffering from TB.
A short skit was also performed by the students. After the awareness programme a free check-up was also done for those who attended the programme. The free check-up included BP, Body Temperature, Weight, Height, Pulse rate & Diet Consultation.- By Our Reporter
