Shillong, Sept 25: Even as the United Democratic Party (UDP) central executive committee will take a call on the pre-poll alliance Wednesday, the party’s State Election Committee (SEC) have approved five names for the party ticket for the 2013 assembly election.
UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh informed that the five names which was cleared Tuesday were of BG Momin from 38 Mendipathar constituency, Dr Md Mizanur Rehman Kazi – 47 Rajabala constituency, WN Sangma – 39 Resubelpara constituency, Sing Mulieh – 2 Jowai constituency and Mihsalan Suchiang from Mookaiaw constituency.
Lyngdoh informed reporters after the meeting that the final list would be cleared by next month.
So far the UDP has declared thirty five candidates for the upcoming polls.
The UDP, however, is yet to decide on some constituencies like Nongthymmai, Jirang, Sohiong, Nongkrem and few others because there are more than one strong contenders. Lyngdoh informed that candidate names for these constituencies will be decided during the next SEC meeting.
With regard to pre-poll alliance Lyngdoh said that the party’s CEC will take a call on this Wednesday. NPP leader PA Sangma had broached the pre-poll alliance issue with the UDP and Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP)-both alliance partner of the Congress in the present government.
Lyngdoh informed that the CEC besides deliberating on the pre-poll alliance issue will also discuss issues pertaining to infiltration, influx, implementation of RTE, reversal of government order on Meghalaya Land Transfer Act .
On asked about the possibilities of the UDP pulling out from the Congress led government, Lyngdoh said, “Based on the views and opinions expressed by the members on these issues tomorrow, the question of pulling out from the government will come.” –By Our Reporter
