SHILLONG, FEB 18: Two VECs Nongal Colony and Do·bakkol Nengjama were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- each for their excellent work in the implementation of the MGNREGS scheme during a public hearing held at Nongalbibra on Wednesday.
Public hearing on the performance of the MGNREGS in four GS circles of Baghmara C&RD block for the year 2013-14 was held on Wednesday at Nongalbibra, South Garo hills in the presence of local MLA and parliamentary secretary Rophul S. Marak, South Garo hills additional deputy commissioner Aloysius C. Marak, Block Development Officer, Baghmara C&RD block Yosima W. Momin, Bakdil Co-ordinator, DRDA officials, president/secretary of the VECs and villagers of the concerned GS circles.
Almost all VEC members were satisfied with the MGNREGS scheme and the social audit. Job card holders and president/secretary of the Village Employment Councils (VEC) of the four GS Circles placed their grievances in implementing the MGNREGS wherein the chairman informed that the matter will be looked upon.
In his speech Rophul S. Marak thanked the people for sharing their views and comments by attending the programme.
“As per the revised guidelines for social audit, the social audit is performed at the Village Employment Council (VEC) by a social audit team. Social audit is a powerful tool of evaluation of MGNREGA work and on the basis of the findings people are given time to return the misappropriated amount or make remedies for an unsatisfactory work.
The idea of hearing on social audit is that in case of grave irregularities and brazen misappropriation of MGNREGA money immediate action can be taken against the offenders and VEC secretaries can be sacked upon proof of their misutilization of funds.-By Our Reporter
