SHILLONG, FEB 5: Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) wants Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and stop the vandalizing of religious structures. “We request your kind intervention to ensure that those responsible for vandalizing the religious structures be brought to justice at the earliest so that this is put to an end, before further damage is done to this great country of ours,” KHNAM (Youth Wing) president Thomas Passah said in a letter to the PM on Thursday.
KHNAM also expressed concern over the ongoing vandalizing of churches in various parts of the country in the past months, the recent attacks on churches in Delhi within a period of two months in Jasola, Vikaspuri, Dilshad Garden and Vasant Kunj area which it said is a matter of concern for many, especially the minority communities of the country, sparking outrage among the Christian communities.
“It is clear that these incidents are a clear case of desecration of the church, and not a case of theft,” Passah said. He said the targeted attack on churches in various parts of the country including Delhi is nothing but an attempt aimed at creating a fear psychosis among the community.
“It is also a reflection of hate campaign and false propaganda by groups whose sole aim is to break the religious harmony and social peace of this great nation and no responsible government can afford to let activities like these hamper the secularism of this country,” Passah asserted.
Passah further stated wherever these incidents took place concerned state governments have failed to put up the best foot forward or did not do enough to bring the culprit to justice.
KHNAM also expressed strong objection to categorization of the North East population as “immigrants” by the BJP.
Passah strongly felt that terming the people from north east as immigrants in the BJP’s Vision document for the up-coming Delhi election will further endanger the people of Meghalaya and north east living in Delhi. The letter said this has hurt the sentiments of people at large.- By Our Reporter
