SHILLONG, JAN 30: Along with the rest of the country, Meghalaya observed a two minutes silence with due solemnity and better public participation in memory of those who gave their lives in the struggle for India’s freedom. The day also marks the death anniversary of the father of nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.
In Shillong, wreaths were laid at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the main secretariat by senior government officials led by the Meghalaya chief secretary Barkor Warjri. During the observance, government offices, public and vehicular movement came to a standstill to the sound of the siren followed by two minutes of silence. Thereafter another siren is sounded to mark the end of silence. – By Our Reporter
