TURA, JAN 22: Days after he purportedly announced his resignation from the Garo National Liberation Council (GNLA), its chairman Champion R Sangma has invited swarmed of criticism from his own GNLA members who alleged that he has forged close relationship with politicians and police.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, Garo Mandei Marak, the self styled public relation secretary of GNLA, alleged that Champion who is lodged in the Shillong district jail continues to have access to mobile phone which he said has also been highlighted by the media.
Even as Marak revealed that Champion, a renegade Meghalaya deputy inspector general of police, hides his mobile in the television set or in his novel which he is fond of reading, the GNLA statement wondered why the government is not taking corrective steps.
The GNLA statement questioned: If the intelligence wings of police can tap the phones being use by militants than why the police have turned a blind eye on the use of phone by Champion? “Is it that this kind of facilities is available to other militant leaders in the Delhi’s Central Jail also? Or, is it that the top police officers are allowing him to use mobile phone intentionally?”
Taking a dig at Champion, Marak said, “We have carried his orders effectively for several years and have known how he acts and behaves” and continues by saying that the former Meghalaya police service officer longer bears any qualities to become the leader of the GNLA or the people of Garoland.”- From Our Correspondent
