SHILLONG, JAN 20: The Congress on Tuesday accused the BJP led NDA-11 coalition government of trying to make India into “Hindu Nation” and allegedly subverting the Constitution of India.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge Meghalaya and north east V Narayanasamy said, “Secularism is the key word in the Constitution but the BJP led government at the centre is trying to totally subvert it by using the hard-line Hindu groups like the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and openly wanted people from various religions to convert to Hinduism.”
Narayanasamy said the BJP is trying to dominate by making India as a Hindu nation as the recent development in the country like bringing about communal by creating communal situation by the RSS is ‘disturbing.’ He gave the example of the vandalizing of the churches in Delhi which is seen as encouraging the communal elements by the BJP government at the centre.
Narayanasamy also alleged, “In fact they are luring them with money and it was proved in Chhattisgarh district, where people were paid money for the purpose of convergence.”
Stating that the Congress is totally opposed to such forced conversion policy of BJP government, Narayananasawmy said, “The Congress party is working to ensure that all religions in the country are to be treated as equal.” According to him, the people have rights under the Constitution of India to embrace any religion.
Coming down heavily on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Narayanasamy said, “Unfortunately the prime minister who has been talking about the development agenda is, however, silent on the communal agenda.”
Stating that he (PM) was not able to face the parliament, the Congress leader said, “When the issue was raised in the parliament and in the Rajya Sabha for almost 15 days the Upper House was paralyzed as the prime minister failed to address the issue.” He said that Modi became a silent spectator and he is endorsing the views of RSS on conversion and allowing the communal flare up in the country.
Narayanasamy also alleged that the several promises made by the NDA government and Narendra Modi, but none of them have been implemented so far.
Narayanasamy who came to Meghalaya on Tuesday also interacted with the state Congress leaders and functionaries during the meeting.
After his meeting with the Congress leaders and party workers, Narayanasamy said, “The government in the state is doing very well… It has been implementing all the welfare schemes and giving support to the farmers, tablets to children for improving their education and health for all.”
Narayanasamy informed that the meeting has decided there should be a coordination of the government activities with the block and districts levels by the party workers.
Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma who also spoke briefly said the dissemination of information pertaining to the number of initiatives of the government, the issues and response to issue needs to be effectively disseminated.
Sangma said dissemination of information is one of the effective instruments in a democracy which can be utilize for giving information at the grass root level so that people are in a position to enlightened themselves on various initiatives and programmes of the government.
Sangma felt with information the people can become capable of approaching the respective line departments and fulfilling the objective of the programmes that will actually benefiting the people of the state.
Sangma said that the Congress is committed to fulfil its promises made in the manifesto.- By Our Reporter
