SHILLONG, DEC 9: Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP) PJP Hanaman launched the official website ‘shillongpolice.gov.in’ of the East Khasi hills district police on Tuesday.

“The website will serve as a vehicle of community interaction and as a tool for investigation and intelligent collection, “Hanaman said while launching the website.” He said while information is one thing, the intelligence is what helps the police to be more proactive.

Congratulating the East Khasi hills police, the state police chief said the initiative is also in line with the Prime Minister’s suggestion to all the DGPs in the country that every police station should have their own official website.

According to him, it is also a move towards transparency of the Shillong police.

Inspector General of Police (IGP-operations) GHP Raju said the launching of the website has added a new dimension to the Safe Secure Shillong launched by the chief minister.

He also informed that the first phase for installation of the Close Circuit Television (CCTVs) in 28 locations will take place before Christmas.

Raju also suggested if the website can be made mobile friendly to the users.

Equipped with a gamut of information, the official website will be updating advisories to the public and internet users, updates will include on crimes, knowledge about the police organization besides other important things.

Giving a brief gist about the website, East Khasi hills SP M Kharkrang said the website also welcome suggestions from citizens on any issues.  He said,“The whole idea of the launching the website is to enable the police to serve the people better.”

Stating that the website will also include advisories to the public, Kharkhrang, however, rued that despite advisories issued earlier through media yet the public are victims of various crimes. He said the police however manage to catch the perpetrators of such crimes but lamented that the damage had already been done.

Kharkhrang urged the public to take the advisories issued by police seriously for their own good. – By Our Reporter
