SHILLONG, DEC 8: Former Chief Minister DD Lapang, who is now chief adviser to Meghalaya government, inaugurated the Youth & Junior National Judo Championship 2014 at Indoor Sports Hall JN Sport Complex on Monday.
Inaugurating the championship, Lapang said that it is a happy occasion to inaugurate the National Youth & Junior Judo Championship 2014 meet at Shillong.
Lapang also welcomed the delegations, the 900 participants with officials from 29 states and union territories and wish them to have a good health, to take back with a sweet memory and have a safe journey.
Lapang reminded that the 1st East Zone Judo Championship was held in Shillong in 1988 and Sub Junior National Judo in 2007 where Miss Martinez Shangpliang bagged- Silver Medal.
Lapang also appreciated the theme of this Championship “Judo for Peace” He said that the north east region (8 States) need peace, Meghalaya need peace, the nation and the world need peace, so he said let’s hope that through this championship it will usher in peace and unity.
Others present on the occasion were LP Warjri, vice president, Judo Federation of India and organising secretary, Youth & Junior National Judo Championship, 2014-15, MM Jaiswal general secretary, Judo Federation of India, Banee Brada Das, joint secretary, Judo Federation of India and Arun Diwedi, vice chairman of Judo Federation of India.- By Our Reporter
