SHILLONG,NOV 2: To beautify the Nongkhnum river island, the state government has released Rs 90 lakhs that will be channelized through the directorate of tourism. Nongkhnum river Island holds the record of being the second largest river island in Asia.
Officers of the tourism department and from land records of the Nongstoin DEC have conducted inspection and spot visit to Nongkhnum River Island on Wednesday to enable to take up the project. The tourism department has planned to construct five cottages, one big restaurant, a parking lot, footpaths and others developmental activities at Nongkhnum to improve the infrastructure and also the scenic beauty of Nongkhnum river island.
The department is hoping with infrastructure in place the flow of tourist to this river island will increase. An officer said the tourism department will continue to improve the beauty of Nongkhnum River Island, which is known as one of the most beautiful tourist spot in West Khasi hills.
The officer said the department has many innovative ideas for improving the river island in future. The nearby two acres of land was donated by the Nongsiej clan for improvement of the river island.- By Our Reporter
