SHILLONG, AUG 22: Two girls hailing from rural areas of Meghalaya have been selected for a one-month trial for the ‘Indian Football Team’ by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) slated to be held in Gujarat.
Pynhun Shullet (striker) and Iawanlang Nongbet (midfield) of the Meghalaya Football Association (Women Cell) have been selected for trial for the Indian Football Team, a trial camp which has been scheduled for one month in Gujarat, MFA vice president Diverland Lyngdoh said in a statement issued on Friday.
While Shullet is a girl hailing from a Saphai village in West Jaintia hills district, her friend Nongbet is from Perkseh village in East Khasi hills district.
Overwhelmed by the selection, Lyngdoh said this is the first time that women footballer has been selected by the AIFF.
“We also expressed our gratitude to Iaiakyntiew Nongkynrih (coach) who has been able to infuse the spirit of football among the girls in the State,” Lyngdoh said. According to him, the selection of these two girls will further improve and attract other girls to seriously participate in football.
MFA wishes the two girls on their achievement and hope that they will bring laurel to the state as a whole.- By Our Reporter
