TURA, JULY 17: Two militants of the proscribed Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) sustained bullet injuries in a gun battle with the police in a remote village in South Garo Hills district from where huge cache of arms and ammunition were also recovered.
There was heavy exchange of fire between the GNLA militants and police SWAT and Cobra from East Garo hills and South Garo hills districts who conducted a joint operation at Warima Songmong under Chokpot, a senior police officer informed.
The police officer said during the encounter, two cadres were injured but they managed to escape from the place taking advantage of the thick forest. According to him, GNLA area commander Kiljang R Sangma alias Jangjang, Kongsil and other cadres were there during the encounter.
They however managed to escape due to presence of civilians nearby, the police officer said.
The police recovered, 2 pistols, 1 shotgun, 1 Chinese grenade, 160 rounds of AK ammo, 9mm ammo, 4 mobile phones and several empty cases of AK w from the place of occurrence.- From Our Correspondent
