Consumers’ Awareness prog

SHILLONG, JUNE 20: A one day Consumer Awareness Program was conducted at the District Library Auditorium, Jowai. The program was organized by the office of the Deputy Commissioner (Supply)  West Jaintia Hills District, attended by PS Dkhar,  deputy commissioner & President District Forum, SS Syiemlieh, ADC,  R Kharbihkhiew,  GS Nongkhlaw, Deputy Director of Supply, West Jaintia hills district and dealers, whole Sellers.

In speech Dkhar said the objective of organizing the awareness programme was to create awareness among the dealers and wholesalers about their responsibility as distributors, he also requested the supply department to ensure proper supply of food grains by the Fair Price Shops. He also advised the consumers to be aware of their right and duties.

Additional deputy commissioner SS Syiemlieh informed that there are around 200 dealers and 11 whole sellers in the district. He requested the dealers and the supply department to check the food grains at the distribution point especially the FCI outlet godown before delivery to FPS outlets and consumers. He also requested FPS to have sign boards and also display the price list of the commodities at their respective place of distribution.

Dr JN Shullai, non-official member of the District Forum and Dr. B Plain, retd. deputy director, A.H & Vety. department also spoke.

The students of Church of God Secondary School, Ummulong presented a song on the rights of the consumers and short play by W Dhar and friends. Pamphlets and booklets on consumer rights and responsibilities were also distributed.- By Our Reporter
