TURA, JUNE 17: A day after he was abducted, SBI Ampati branch manager Arvind Kumar is still untraceable as the police remains clueless of his and the abductors whereabouts. Kumar was abducted on Monday from Garobadha in South West Garo hills.
Search operation to locate Kumar and his kidnappers by the police is still on.
Three armed militants had abducted Kumar while he was on his way to
Ampati, where he is posted as the branch manager. West Garo hills SP Mukesh Singh said, “We suspect it to be a handiwork of militant. Our operation is on.”
SBI Garo hills SBI assistant general manager Nixon Joseph held a series of meetings with SBI officials on Tuesday and decided to appeal to the abductors to release Kumar immediately. He said, “Unfortunate incidents like abduction will result in closure of branches due to shortage of official.”
Joseph urged the abductors to release Kumar on humanitarian grounds.
Bakdil, a catholic missionary run ngos also appealed for the bank official immediate and unconditional release. The ngo said, “Kidnapping of SBI official will affect the morale of both official and clerical staffs. This will make life difficult for ordinary people.”
SBI is contemplating to launch an indefinite closure of banks to demand Kumar’s unconditional release. Tura MP Purno Sangma also condemned the kidnapping and said if this can happen in the constituency of the chief minister then where can people feel safe.- From Our Correspondent
