TURA, JUNE 3 An alleged rape of a eight years old girl in Phulbari in West Garo hills and the attempt of the parents of the victim to work out a compromise with the accused has rattled the police took a suo motto action after confirming that the minor was raped.
Soon after the mother of the victim was forced to file an FIR, the accused identified as 24 years old Munaf Ali surrendered on Monday at Phulbari police station.
Ali was produced in the court on Tuesday and has remanded to 10 days police custody.
The minor was raped eight days ago in Chibinang village by Ali.
Had it not been for IPS officer Digvijay Singh, who is posted on probation as in-charge of Phulbari police station, the matter would have been swept under the carpet.
On May 31, police met the victim’s mother but the father ran away, as police were told that the victim’s father was striking a ‘compromise’ for the heinous crime. According to police the victim’s mother also refused to divulge any details.
The police, however, took a suo moto action and began their investigation. The medical examination confirmed that the minor was raped mercilessly. Following which, the victim’s mother filed an FIR.
Singh said, “This is ridiculous! What is the use of the law if they are trying to compromise cases as grave as rape. We can’t believe that the parents felt like making a compromise, in spite of the fact that the act was perpetrated on their minor daughter.”
Singh said rape is serious criminal case but what the parents tried to do was worse.
The victim’s parents, however, told the police officials that they were threatened by the accused and his family.- By Our Reporter
Kudos to the Officer…In Shillong there was a rape case where a minor girl was raped by some minors. The arrest was made and the girl has also given her statement in Court. It seems in her Statement she is said to have even mentioned that she was also raped by her father yet the police are not taking action against this father. We are trying to get the documents and will file the FIR against him…but look at the audacity of the police who should have done what this officer Digvijay had done…In many Police stations in Meghalaya, Police enjoy, feed their families with the funds they earn from perpetrators of heinous crimes…..
