SHILLONG, APR 21: Hame Shaniah, a class XII student from St Edmund’s College, bagged the WAKO India Pro-National Kickboxing Championship held in Odisha recently.
Shaniah, also a lone participant from Meghalaya representing the Meghalaya Association Kickboxing Organization (MAKO) was able to win his professional kickboxing fight in ring sport in low-kick below 51 kg (men).
Shaniah defeated his opponents from Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Andhra Pradesh in the final bout and claimed the title winning cash prize of Rs 10,000.
This is also the first time that MAKO has won a title in the pro national kickboxing arena.
The three-day championship was organized by the Amateur Kickboxing Association of Odisha and sanctioned by the National Kickboxing Federation of India (NKFI) which started from April 11 and concluded on April 13.
Shaniah was also a national medalist since his sub-junior age winning medals for the state in the year 2008-2009.- By Our Reporter
