Shillong: If anyone has chosen to chart a career off the beaten path, you might invite dollops of cynicism, but if you are a girl then the situation becomes slightly grim as you might even be discouraged to pursue your calling. However that has not really mattered to Monica Synnah as she goes about her work every day as the only certified plumber in Meghalaya.
The twenty-one year old beautiful Monica decided to follow in her father’s footstep who was a plumber by profession. Whenever there was a school holiday, she did not play like other children do but followed her father wherever his plumbing job took him. Since the age of seven she had followed her father and developed a love for the job.
The cat-eyed Monica loved what her father did so much, that unlike other girls who preferred pursuing conventional studies, she decided to enroll herself for one year certificate course in the ITI at Rynjah. Today, she is a qualified plumber and has been working for the last one year.
Speaking to www.ohmeghalaya.com, Monica says, ““Basically I got the training from my father but I joined ITI just to acquire a certificate and now I will register myself with the PHE.” About her job, she says that sometime she is so busy that she does not find time to even have her food and there are times she just sits idle.
Monica is the youngest of the three sisters; her eldest sister is working in call centre at Bangalore and the second one is doing here nursing. She says that she does not regret having decided to follow in the footstep of her father and become the only lady plumber in the State.
