SHILLONG, MAR 12: Meghalaya assembly Speaker Abu Taher Mondal disallowed the opposition members’ motion seeking to discuss the teachers scam and the dismissal of the 246 teachers who were alleged to have been appointed through the backdoor saying the issue is sub-judice as cases are still pending in the court of law.
Meghalaya government had recently issued termination letters to 246 teachers who were alleged to have been appointed on the recommendation of politicians. The termination followed the recommendation of the High Level Scrutiny Committee (HLSC) to terminate the services of these teachers of the different lower primary schools of the state.
Some opposition members wanted to discuss the issue and had submitted a resolution which was turn down by Mondal. Justifying his action not to admit the motion, he said, “The Law department has informed that two cases have been filed by the petitioners in high court challenging the termination order dated February 28 issued by the Director of School Education and Literacy (DSEL).”
Mondal informed that the cases were moved and listed on March 10 before the Meghalaya high court. He said, “On this, the chief justice issued notice to the state government to file its replies within a period of four weeks.”
Mondal also informed that besides the two cases, , six writ petitions were also filed relating to the same case and all the writ petitions are likely to be listed.
Mondal told the assembly on Wednesday, “Therefore, as per the information received from the government, the cases are now pending before the Meghalaya High Court
and it will be sub-judice to discuss in the house on this subject matter in any form.”- By Our Reporter
