KHADC, JHADC CEMs retain their seats

***HSPDP legislator Ardent Basaiawmoit won the Nongkrem MDC seat***

SHILLONG, FEB 27: Outgoing Chief Executive Member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Pynshngainlang N. Syiem has retained his seat from Mawsynram constituency. Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) CEM Madonbai Rymbai, who is the Congress candidate, has also manage to retain his seat despite allegations of misappropriated leveled against him.

Syiem, who is also the Congress MLA from Mawsynram, secured a second straight term by defeating Suly Lyngdoh of the National People’s Party (NPP) by a margin of 3,244 votes.

However, sitting MDC from Nongkrem constituency Lambor Malngiang had to bite the dust. Nongkrem MLA of the HSPDP Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit defeated Malngiang.

UDP legislator from Sohra T.W Chyne, who is also the sitting MDC, lost to Congress nominee Donevan Wahlang. Shella MDC Teinwell Dkhar of the UDP, however, retained his seat.

Sitting MDC from Nongshken Grace Mary Kharpuri also retained her seat as a HSPDP candidate. Jansing Tynsong of the Congress was also re-elected from Lyngkyrdem-Laitkroh constituency.

KHNAM working president Adelbert Nongrum was returned to the KHADC from Jaiaw constituency by a huge margin.

Former minister Process T. Sawkmie, who contested from Mawlai constituency as a KHNAM candidate, defeated Teibor Pathaw of the Congress.

Meghalaya district council affairs minister H. Donkupar Roy Lyngdoh retained his Nongspung-Sohiong constituency by defeating UDP nominee Wankupar Syiemlieh.
