SHILLONG, FEB 25: West Jaintia hills district Superintendent of Police (SP) Herbert G Lyngdoh said that the Nartiang- Umladang Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate Moina K Phyllut has been forwarded to the court of District & Session judge on Tuesday afternoon.
Phyllut was arrested by the police last night for his role in the poll violence by his supporters who attack and destroy the EVM machine at Umladang polling station and also assaulted the polling officer.
The Umladang NCP polling agent who also is alleged to have a hand had also been arrested and he too has been forwarded to the court.
Around thirty supporters of Phyllut had stormed the Umladang polling station under the 3-Nartiang constituency in West Jaintia Hills district and destroyed the EVM machine and also assaulted the second polling officer K Dhar, who sustained a back injury.
As a result of the violence, the West Jaintia hills deputy commissioner PS Dkhar has ordered a repoll in the Umladang polling station on Wednesday.
The West Jaintia hills SP Herbert G Lyngdoh told this website that Pyllut and his polling agent have been slapped with a case relating to violation of Representation of People Act, criminal conspiracy and also theft. He said, “Both of them have been slapped with one case but under seven different sections.”
Lyngdoh also informed that of the thirty people who had stormed the Umladang polling station, ten of them have been identified. He said, “We have identified ten of them and now are looking for them to arrest. We are also trying to identify the rest of them.” – By Our Reporter
