IOCL clinch veteran opening

SHILLONG, FEB 14: In a closely contested inaugural match of the XIX PSPB inter unit Veteran Cricket Tournament IOCL defeated GAIL by 20 runs on Friday in the match played at Polo ground. The IOCL had scored an imposing 143 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 20 over match.  In return GAIL scored a close 123 in 19.2 over losing ten wickets.

The IOCL won the toss and elected to bat. It scored 143 runs and its two batsmen MD Kumar scored a quick 45 runs out of 44 balls followed by BG Joglekar with 42 runs off 38 balls. Chasing the score the GAIL batsmen were all out for 123 runs with four balls to spare.  R Choudhury  with  33 runs off 19 balls was the highest scorer for the GAIL team.

MD Kumar was declared the man of the match.

Earlier during the inauguration Rahul Choudhury, OIL general manager graced the occasion as chief guest while Gideon Kharkongor, Shillong Cricket Association (SCA)  general secretary was the guest of honor.

Khirode Chetia, OIL senior manager and the organizing secretary of the tournament delivered the welcome address which was followed by the introduction of the teams, match commissioner & the umpires. This was followed by the  oath taking ceremony conducted by Dr. Deepankar Bhattacharya of OIL.

A short short cultural programme added pomp and gaiety to the proceedings and also showcased the cultural heritage of Meghalaya.
