Militants beaten by public

SHILLONG, FEB 1: Two militants belonging to the newly floated militant outfit in Garo Hills, the United Achik Liberation Army (UALA), were beaten up by the public while they were trying to extort money on Saturday evening.The incident took place at around 5 pm at Darengre under Dobasipara beat house, police said.

The two militants have been identified as Sanjay Ch Sangma and Bijoy Ch Sangma who had gone to the house of one Isak N Marak to demand money from him. Marak raised an alarm and the villagers came rushing to rescue him. The enraged villagers also gave a sound thrashing to the militants.

Both the militants belong to the Norok faction and have been admitted in Tura Civil hospital, police said. One 9mm pistol, one 7.65 pistol, 2 magazines and three live rounds were also recovered from their possession. – By Our Reporter
