SHILLONG, FEB 1: The passing out parade of 163rd recruit batch was held at 58 Gorkha Training Centre on Saturday. Over 80 recruits of 5 Gorkha Rifles (Frontier Force) and 97 of 8 Gorkha Rifles passed out and took oath of affirmation at the parade ground in the training centre.
Colonel Babu Francis, officiating Commandant 58 Gorkha Training Centre, reviewed the colourful parade and exhorted the young soldiers to be the finest soldiers of the Indian Army.
Recruit Samsher Gurung was adjudged as the ‘Overall Best Recruit’ and was awarded the ‘Manekshaw Khukri’.
Recruit Sundar Gurung was adjudged best recruit of 5 Gorkha Rifles (Frontier Force) and was awarded the ‘Zorawar Khukri’ and recruit Santosh Kumar Shrestha was adjudged the best recruit of 8 Gorkha Rifles and was awarded the ‘Dutta Trophy’.
The parents of the young soldiers were also honoured with the ‘Gaurav Padak’ to commemorate their contribution to the nation.
The glittering ceremony conducted with a cultural programme comprising of Khukri Dance, Military Band Display and Aerobics Display organised for the parents of the passing out recruits.- By Our Reporter
