SHILLONG, JAN 20: Four ngos have called for a two-day night road blockade in Jaintia hills on January 27 and 28 to protest against the inability of the state government to immediately repair the dilapidated National Highway – 44.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the four organizations – All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organization (AJYWO), Khasi Students’ Union – Jaintia Hills District Unit (KSU-JHDU), Hynniewtrep National Youth Front-East Jaintia Zone (HNYF-EJZ) and Federation of Khasi Jaintia & Garo People – Khliehriat Circle (FKJGP-KC) on Monday.
The night road blockade which will be effective in the East Jaintia hills and West Jaintia hills districts will start from 7 pm to 5 am, AJYWO president MH Dkhar said in a statement issued onMonday.
Dkhar said, “We protest against the state government’s nonchalant attitude towards the region as it has failed to pay heed to the requests made by us on several occasion on the need to urgently repair the road.”
The National Highway – 44 stretching from Mookyndur in West Jaintia hills to Malidor in East Jaintia hills district is in a deplorable condition creating great inconvenience to the public. Dkhar said that the ngos demand for immediately repair of the road failing which the organizations will intensify their agitation programmes.- By Our Reporter
