LS poll: NPP seek opinions

SHILLONG, JAN 16: The National People’s Party (NPP) directed all its district units in Garo Hills to seek the opinion of all party workers and public on who should be the party’s candidate to the Tura Lok Sabha seat.

The decision was taken at the State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting of the party held on Wednesday.

NPP president PA Sangma said, “All district units of the party in Garo hills have been directed to seek the opinion of the public and party workers as to who should be the party’s candidate in the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Tura seat.”

Sangma also said that the 2014 Lok Sabha elections will bring a change in New Delhi and automatically there will be change in the north east region also.

The NPP has also unanimous decided to work together with all non-congress political parties under the banner of the Meghalaya People’s Forum (MPF) for the parliamentary election from Shillong seat.

NPP legislator James Sangma said, “We have decided to work together with all political parties to ensure the defeat of the Congress party in the Shillong Parliamentary seat.” He informed that NPP will support a common candidate of the MPF.

“We will not put up a candidate for the Shillong parliamentary seat and would make every effort to bring about this consensus,” James Sangma added.

The NPP has also decided to put up candidates for the forthcoming Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) elections slated to be held on February 24.

The senior Sangma said the selection of candidates for the MDC elections will also be carried out after consultations with our MPF alliance, including the UDP.

A committee comprising of NPP state president WR Kharlukhi, former MLA ECB Bamon, Forward Lyngdoh has been formed to negotiate on behalf of the NPP with other non Congress parties.- By Our Reporter
