Shillong, January 16: Former Lok Sabha speaker and National People’s Party (NPP) president Purno A Sangma accused chief minister Mukul Sangma of being a “common-chairman” of all the militant groups operating in the Garo hills region of the state.

Making a statement based on the allegation by the ANVC(B) publicity secretary Ajaju Marak that the chief minister used the outfit to catapult himself to the post of the chief minister during the last term, PA Sangma said, “Who is the chairman of ANVC(B) who is the chairman of ANVC, who is the chairman of GNLA, I think it is only one person called Mukul.”

Addressing the media on Thursday, the NPP leader said, “Yes, I charge him.  He (Mukul) is the “common-chairman” of all militant groups.”

Sangma further accused the Congress led MUA government of misleading the union government as there was no ceasefire agreement between ANVC (B) and the government. The parent ANVC has signed the ceasefire agreement since 2004. According to him, the ANVC(B) is not ANVC.

“It (ANVC-B) has become a separate identity when it split from the ANVC and there is no ceasefire agreement between ANVC(B) and the Government of India,” he said while asking how it is that government of Meghalaya is inviting ANVC(B) for negotiation?

“So, government of Meghalaya has deliberately misled the government of India by illegally and unconstitutionally inviting ANVC(B) to the talks,” Sangma charged adding “Law doesn’t apply in Meghalaya, ethics does not apply in Meghalaya, constitution doesn’t apply in Meghalaya, it is the  wish of the chief minister which applies in Meghalaya, it is very dangerous.”

The State Executive Committee of the NPP held on Wednesday has also resolved to demand for an immediate probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the alleged politico-militant nexus and that the chief minister should step down from his post for free and fair enquiry.

Sangma said that the NPP delegation led by him will be meeting the Prime Minister, Home Minister and leaders of opposition in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to apprise the whole law and order situation in the state including the revelation of the ANVC(B) publicity secretary.

Answering a query, Sangma said thought the present union government may not take action but by the middle of May, a new government is going to be installed in New Delhi and he said he can assure that the next  union government will take cognizance of the NPP representation.

Chief minister Mukul Sangma on Tuesday  had denied link with any militant outfits and claimed that  he is one among the very few politicians who do not keep any link with militant outfit.

Reacting to the claim of the chief minister, the NPP president said which politician will say that he has link with militant groups. He informed that evidence is there to prove the chief minister’s link and the people whom he had used are revealing that they did whatever he instructed them to do.

On Criminalization of politics, corruption

National People’s Party (NPP) president Purno A Sangma said that ‘criminalization of politics’ and ‘corruption’ are the two worst enemies of democracy and society adding his party is on the process of conducting investigation and would soon come up with a detail report on the matter.

“Criminalization of politics and corruption are the two worst enemies of democracy and society,” Sangma told reporters on Thursday. He informed that the NPP is in the process of conducting a thorough investigation.

Sangma said that the NPP will prepare a detail reports and would then submit it to the union government even though the present government is not going to act but the next government- which will be a non Congress government- which is going to be installed in New Delhi is going to take action.

Sangma said that investigation is going on the law and order prevailing in the state and corruption.

Sangma informed that on the question of criminalisation, the whole country is debating on electoral reforms. Anna hazzare, Baba Ramdev, Arvind Kejriwal have launched movement on corruption and everyone knows how people have responded to this.  He however lamented that in Meghalaya everything is going merrily. “What can be a worst criminalization of politics, when the chief minister himself is involved with militancy,” he said”

Sangma informed that in the report of the union home minister Garo hills of Meghalaya is the depicted as having the worst law and order situation in the country and prime minister has caution government of Meghalaya during the chief ministers’ conference.”

Informing that he had visited a village in Garo hills where three people were killed last year, Sangma said that people told him that they have seen Captain Sangma chief ministership, they have seen BB Lyngdoh, they have seen PA Sangma, they have seen DD Lapang, they  have seen even Salseng Marak but never before there has been such a law and order problem in the state. He further added by saying that people are asking why is it happening today and where is the leadership?

Sangma also claimed that the NPP has enough evidence on corruption, for example the education scam, and the party wi;; will not allow it to die. He said, “What kinds of corruption and nepotism have taken place will be exposed in the report.”

Quoting a recent statement by the coal transporter association where they have alleged Rs 470 crores per month is being illegally collected in all the gates in Garo hills, Sangma said, “We are also investigating the matter.”

Stating that elaborating on corruption is very time consuming, Sangma said let the NPP investigation be completed and report compiled then the party  will place it before the people of Meghalaya as to what kind of corruption is taking place in Meghalaya. He concluded by saying. “It is unbelievable, shameful and shocking.”- By Our Reporter
