Shillong, August 30:Shillong Lajong Football Club (SLFC) breezed through to the finals of the Northeast Lajong Super Series by defeating United Sikkim Football Club (USFC) 3-0 Thursday match at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium.
The Shillong Lajong scored the hattrick through Friday Gbeneme. Despite appearing in the second half former India captain Bhaichung Bhutia, who is the promoter of the United Sikkim FC, failed to score any goal for his team.
With the win over the United Sikkim FC, Shillong Lajong FC has enter the finals of the Northeast Lajong Super Series and will take on New Zealand based Wellington Phoenix Football Club on Saturday at 3:15 pm.
It was the home team that dominated the game from the very first whistle and went on to score in the 8th minute when unmarked Friday received a miss pass from Poibiang Pohshna and opened the account for Lajong and hammered the second goal six minutes later as he headed home the free kick taken by Eugenson Lyngdoh.
United Sikkim FC was looking off colour and could hardly test Lajong custodian Lalthuammawaia Ralte in the first half.
Changing the side Sikkim did played some attacking football but it seems to have run out of lady luck as they could not score even a goal.-
However in the 63 minute the United Sikkim FC had a chance of reducing the margin if the powerful shot from the boot of Ahoadou R. Parfait not hit the inner bar..
But the Shillong Lajong FC increased their tally when Friday earned his hattrick in the 67th minute as he tapped home the cross ball Boithang Haokip. By Suraj Joshi
