SHILLONG, DEC 4: Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma handed over a memorandum to prime minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday that also included the approval of the State Level Steering Committee (SLSC) to the Detail Project Reports (DPRs) of six projects proposed under the JNNURM-II which was cleared earlier. The projects were approved during a review meeting last month convened by chief minister Mukul Sangma , who is also the chairman of the SLSC.
The six projects included Shillong Drainage Master Plan – II, Greater Shillong Water Supply Project phase-IV, Augmentation of Williamnagar (Simsanggiri) Water Supply, Purchase of Additional Buses and Intelligent Transport System and Infrastructure Facilities.
The state government has prepared a total cost of Rs 15247.89 lakh for the Shillong Drainage Master Plan – II with an aim to provide an effective storm water drainage system to prevent flooding, water logging and inundation within the Greater Shillong planning area.
The DPR for Greater Shillong Water Supply Project phase-IV has been prepared with a total project cost of Rs 189.83 crores to cover the five new urban areas vis-à-vis Mawpat, Nongkseh, Umling, Lawsohtun and Umlyngka.
The DPR for Augmentation of Williamnagar (Simsanggiri) Water Supply has been prepared with a total project cost of Rs 52.21 crores. The state government has proposed Rs 6266.99 lakh for the purchase of additional buses to meet the increasing demand for transport services in the state capital.
Moreover, a total project cost of Rs 1183.94 lakh has been proposed for the implementation of the Intelligent Transport System and Infrastructure Facilities. The proposed ITS project implementation include core components such as vehicle tracking system, real time passenger information system and central control station. – By Our Reporter
