Shillong, December 2: Two days after the public rally, the thirteen pro Inner Line Permit (ILP) ngos announced fresh agitation with three-day ‘night-road blockade’ from December 4 to 6 as part of its decision to intensify the stir to pressurize the state government to implement the ILP to contain unabated influx into the state.
The road blockade will be operational from 9 pm to 5 am in the eleven districts (Khasi-Jaintia and Garo) of the state, Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) vice president Fredrick Kharmawphlang said in a statement issued on Monday.
Referring to the thousands of crowd who had in one voice demanded for the implementation of the ILP, Kharmawphlang said if the state government still wishes to remain adamant and choose to ignore the voice of the majority the ngos would intensify their stir come what may till the ILP is put in place.”
Kharmawphlang said there is no turning back and the ngos have already chalk out their future course of action which would be announced soon afte the examination of the different schools are over. He said, “This is a movement of the indigenous people for their rights and for their protection.”
Kharmawphlang said that the government should pay heed to demand of the indigenous people and implement the ILP immediately, failing he warned that the state will witness intense agitation and only the state government will be responsibility for the sorry state of affairs.
Kharmawphlang asserted that the ngos have vowed that they will continue the fight till government succumbs to their demand. He also appealed to all stakeholders to extend their support and cooperation to the ILP movement.- By Our Reporter
