SHILLONG, NOV 24: The A’chik National Volunteers’ Council-B- (ANVC-B) said issuing trade licenses without proper verification is illegal and violation of the laid down law which also is a discouragement to the local traders as it paralyzed their business.
“Issuing of trade licences without proper verification is illegal and violation to the law of the district council which stands to safeguard the interest of the locals. If these are not check immediately, it will surely cause inconveniences in the future,” ANVC-B publicity secretary Doang D Shira said in a statement issued on Sunday.
Pointing out that obstruction of free and fair trade in Garo Hills is a major concern, Shira said, “It is sad to see why locals are lacking in growth and outsiders progressed considerably in short span of time.” He said there are irregularities and ‘zero’ encouragement to the locals. He said this also includes ‘benami’ practices that have contributed to paralyzing business of local traders.
Shira said, “These are needs to immediate bring about changes through public opinion and initiative by groups who are concerned about lack of growth of locals traders.” The ANVC(B) sought public opinions relating to this matters besides the spiraling prices of essential commodities.
Shira said, “Free and fair trade must be encouraged and prices of essential commodities need to be brought to normal.” He sought the support of the traders, the public and the administration. – By Our Reporter
