SHILLONG, AUG 14: Unhappy over the obsolete courses followed in the it is of the state, the Meghalaya labour department has now started new courses which will suit the modern world. Meghalaya labour minister Ampareen Lyngdoh told reporters that there is an immediate need to review the functioning of ITIs in the modern context.
The ten government and one missionary run ITIs will soon begin imparting seven new courses to equip the youths of the state with the skill that is required in the modern world Lyngdoh said that the new courses which would be started in the ITIs from August 2014 include Floriculture, Mason (Building construction), Land Scapping, Painter, embroidery needle work, interior desinging, multi media animation, office assistant cum computer operators.
Lyngdoh said that the state ITIs were running exhausted courses that has no takers in this modern world and therefore the government has taken the initiative of starting new courses for the youths The revamping of state ITIs can hold great significance to counter the problem of unemployment in the state which is only increasing with each passing year.
Lyngdoh informed that the qualification required for most of the new courses will be Class X and the outdated courses will be left out of the ITIs.
While pointing out that the enrollment in most of the ITIs of the state is pathetic, Lyngdoh felt that the deputy commissioners in their respective districts need to create awareness about the functioning of ITIs and its benefits.
Lyngdoh even took a dig at the poor performance of the employment offices in the state while maintaining that there is a need for continuous review and monitoring the performance of the employment offices in the state.- By Our Reporter
