SHILLONG, NOV 13: The formal inauguration of the Meghalaya House at Kolkata is likely to be delayed. GAD minister HDR Lyngdoh told reporters that the government has taken over the possession of the building but it can be inaugurated only after the work for sewerage connection is over.
Lyngdoh informed that the Meghalaya government is still waiting for permission from the Kolkata Municipal Board (KMC) for construction of the sewerage system from the new building at Russell Street to the main sewerage system of Kolkata city.
According to Lyngdoh, some minor modifications are still left to be done in the Meghalaya House. He said the inauguration of the building will be done soon after the work.
The project has seen several delays and modifications in the building structure which escalated the construction of the project from Rs 22 crore to Rs 49.2 crore
Lyngdoh also informed that the state government is also waiting for allotment of land from the Karnataka government for the construction of Meghalaya House at Bangalore.
The demand for opening up a Meghalaya House at Bangalore came up after students of the North East felt threatened due to various rumours spreading in Bangalore last year. He said that the government would take up the construction of the project at Bangalore as soon as Karnataka government allots land for the project.- By Our Reporter
