Shillong, August 27:Lt. Gen Ranbir Singh has taken over as the Director General of Assam Rifles (DGAR) Monday. He is the third generation army officer who had been commissioned in 1975 in the Bihar regiment.
A decorated officer he has been appointed as the DGAR based on his uprightness, honesty and integrity. His career spans over 37 years.
Singh had commanded an infantry battalion in Jammu & Kashmir, a mountain brigade in Sikkim and an infantry division at Meerut. His earlier assignments also include Brigade Major, Colonel General Staff, Brigadier General Staff and Major General, General Staff at Eastern Command headquarter.
Singh is an alumnus of Lawrence School, Sanawar and prestigious defence institutions such as Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and National Defence College. He has been an instructor at the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, The Infantry School, Mhow and the Indian Military Training Team, Bhutan.
Singh had also represented the country as the Defence Attache at the Indian Embassy, Beijing, China. He is an expert on China and the Eastern Border with over 18 years of experience in Chinese affairs. He relinquishes the appointment of Deputy Commander in Chief of the elite Strategic Forces Command.- By Our Reporter
