Shillong, August 26: Putting pressure on the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Purno K Sangma and his deputy Brigedi N Marak to step down and dissolve the council’s executive committee, the ANVC(B) threatened to call a road blockade from August 29.
The threat of a road blockade follows the twelve hours bandh on August 24 called by the outfit in Garo hills.
ANVC (B) chief of anti-corruption wing Nawang Sangma iterated the outfit’s campaign against corruption and issued a statement Sunday saying, “There will be no compromise. The CEM and Deputy CEM should resign and Executive Committee should be dissolved immediately.”
The statement warned that if the CEM and deputy CEM fail to resign, there will be complete road blockade from August 29.
The decision came in the wake following the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council Secretary’s statement which confirms ANVC(B)’s claim on Council anomalies, Sangma said.
The outfit has accused the council of indulging in corruption for allotting haats / market taxes not to the highest bidders but to those the GHADC executive council favours.-By Our Reporter
