Three died in bus accident

SHILLONG, OCT 23: Three persons died, thirteen critical injured while twelve other passengers received injuries when an Agartala bound night-super bus turned turtle and fell into a stream at Kongong near Tuber village in East Jaintia Hills district in wee hour of Wednesday. The three deceased have been identified as Makest Beori (25) from Uttauranagar of Udalguri district, Assam, Dumar Kirki (23) of Kaireugee village, Nepal and Md. Mathur Rahman (25) of Sutnga village in East Jaintia hills district.

The injured passengers have been identified as Amir Khan (16), Raja Karmakar (30), Biswanath Urang (20), Faraq Ahmed (56 years/male), Dita Borah (20years/male), N. D. Zafar (19), Dugan Rai (47), Kuturang (27), Mrinal (21), Kajol Mandal (25), Rohit (27), Milan (45) and Sanju Sinha (39), Nitul Singh (25), Kartik Singha (58), Nelesh Karmakar (20), Biplap Singh (23), Bhoku Baterai (50), Rahul Rai (15), Deepak Kanti (38), Dilip Kumar Rai (60), Nilas Krinkon (20), Bisu Nuren (34), Suman Singh (20), Vishnu Uray (24).

The accident took place at around 12. 30 am Wednesday when the night-super bus (AS 01 EC 0154) was on its way to Agartala from Guwahati, police said.

“Out of the three, one died on the spot while the other succumbed to their injuries at the Jowai district hospital in Ialong village, West Jaintia hills,” a police official informed.

Seventeen critically injured passengers were shifted to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong for proper treatment. Some of the injured were also shifted to Khliehriat CHC.

The rest of the passengers with minor injuries were given first aid and discharged by the Jowai district hospital. It is learnt that the accident took place after driver lost control of the vehicle on a turning when he tried to avoid a head on collision with a truck coming from the opposite direction.
