SHILLONG, OCT 8: The Meghalaya high court has directed the West Garo hills district SP to produce a visually challenged student who was arrested by police within 48 hours before the court. The order was issued by the court on Tuesday following a petition filed by Senjing Ch Marak challenging the illegal detention of his son Lackson S Sangma.
The visually challenged Lackson was arrested by Tura police on September 11, from Tura government college hostel. Lackson is one among the twenty-five odd volunteers of Garo Hills State Movement Committee (GHSMC) arrested by the district administration during the agitations last month.
“The SP of Tura is directed to produce Lackson S Sangma before the court within 48 hours,” Justice SR Sen said in his order issued here. The court has also directed the state government to show cause within two weeks as to why necessary orders should not be passed for quashing illegal detention of Lackson S Sangma.- By Our Reporter
