SHILLONG, OCT 1: With Shilong and the rest of the state reeling under frequent bandhs and road blockades, the Durga Puja fever is now gradually gripping the city as preparation is on full swing in different localities of the city where Puja Pandals are being constructed.
Unlike previous years, this time Puja preparation suffered a setback due to the ongoing series of agitations called by ngos demanding implementation of ILP in the state, Business also suffered a major setback and business community is hoping that the shopping fever will pick up now as only nine days are left for the Puja.
The Central Puja Committee (CPC) of Meghalaya informed on Tuesday that the festival would commence with CPC’s annual All Faith – All Religion, “Get-Together of Harmony” to be held on October 8 at Assam Kristi Kendra, Dhankheti.
The harmony meet is organized every year by CPC since 1994 to foster harmony among all communities, caste and religion, prior to onset of Durga Puja schedule this year from 10th to 14thOctober 2013.
The CPC has also appealed to all sections of the citizens of Meghalaya in general and Shillong in particular to co-operate and support all Puja Committes as in previous years in ensuring a smooth and peaceful celebration during the Durga Puja, Chat Puja and Diwali Puja in the state with usual fervor and participation of all.- By Our Reporter
