Squabble over party ticket surface in UDP

 

Shillong, August 22: Fissures within the United Democratic Party (UDP) surfaced Wednesday over the move to allocate party ticket to HB Nongseij from Mawthadraishan constituency as the party unit said he was not yet a party member.

Speaking to reporters Wednesday, UDP Mawthadraushan unit president Julius Ceaser Diengngan said,  “We are totally against the propose move to give the party ticket to HB Nongsiej from the constituency on ground that he is not a member of the party.”

Diengngan informed that on July 9 the UDP West Khasi Hills district president K Lyngkhoi had submitted a letter to the UDP general secretary BG Momin- who is heading the State Election Committee as secretary-  stating that H Brolding Nongsiej in his application form submitted to the party had mentioned that he is the UDP member in 201 enrolled by the president and secretary of the erstwhile Nongspung circle in the meeting.

Lyngkhoi, however, pointed out that till today the party have not discussed or accepted Nongseij’s membership in West Khasi hills district. Diengngan is also an aspirant to the UDP ticket and he claims that the party unit in Mawthadraushan had proposed his name as he was a member of the party from 1997.- By Our Reporter
