SHILLONG, SEPT 18 : Months after the CMJ University scandal, its chancellor Chandra Mohan Jha finally appeared before the investigation officer of the Sadar police station on Wednesday. Jha cannot be arrested as he already had obtained an interim anticipatory bail from the Supreme Court on July 19. In fact the apex court had directed Jha , who was absconding, to report before the police for interrogation on September 20.
Meanwhile the legal advisor of Chandra Mohan Jha (CMJ) Foundation, SP Sharma said that the recent dismissal of the special leave petition filed by Chandra Mohan Jha challenging the Meghalaya High Court order does not mean that the university has to wind up its operation. He said the special leave petition was disposed with certain directions.
While dismissing the special leave petition, the apex court said that it feels that ends of justice will be served by directing the state government to take an appropriate action under Section 48 of the 2009 Act after giving notice and reasonable opportunity of hearing to the petitioners.-By Our Reporter
