Customers file FIR

SHILLONG, SEPT 16: Customers including its Shillong branch administrative officer Casper Tariang  of  a Kolkata based M/s ACME Service company has filed an FIR against the financial company even as the company’s headquarter has directed the closure of all its branches across the north east region including Meghalaya citing “bankruptcy.”

“The Company has recently directed us to close down the branch in Shillong,” ACME Shillong Branch Administrative Officer Casper Tariang told reporters at a news conference on Monday. He said the reason cited by the office headquarter for closure is due to bankruptcy and has agreed to refund all the money invested by the customers.”

Informing that the ACME Shillong branch started its operation way back in 2008, Tariang said, “In a span of five years, the company has collected money amounting to Rs 1.3 crore from over 557 customers or clients.”

When asked, Tariang said, “So far the company has completed refunding an amount to the tune of Rs 70-75 lakh to the customers from across Meghalaya,” adding “Now, an amount of over Rs 50 lakh is pending for clearance.”

Tariang also said that as per information given by his counterpart in Guwahati office, the company had collected money to the tune of Rs 2.2 crore only from Assam.

On the sudden closure of the company, Tariang said, “Many clients have lodged FIRs against the company in the city and I have also filed a FIR with Laitumkhrah police station on the matter seeking the intervention of the police to ensure that the people get back their money invested with the company.”-By Our Reporter
